Update from Dundrum Methodist Juniors

Our Spring term this year was very varied and quite long.  We didn't take a long break at Easter, so it has ran since January.  We covered the various Christian celebrations from St David's Day on 1st March, the beginning of Lent, to St Patrick's Day and onto Easter and then onto our Summer finish with our big sale and Fun Day.

The children chose our topics and food figured quite strongly!!  We had cake decorating, pancakes and pizzas and then our Juniors cooked up a storm for the Summer sale.  Enjoying God's wonderful provision while looking out for those less fortunate was a common thread in all our meetings this Spring.  We also celebrated pets in our lives and gave the Juniors an opportunity to bring in their pets and talk about what they meant to them and the responsibilities they feel in caring for them.  On St Patrick’s Day we had our own parade in the church and the children were very creative with costume and dance.  It was great fun and a good opportunity to talk again about the basics of our faith and how our Juniors can share that faith with others.  Our Juniors put on a lovely Service for Easter and invited families to come and celebrate the most important part of the year.  Everyone took part in an Easter story which again was very simple and brings us back to why we are Christians in the first place!

The highlight this year would have to be our most successful sale, (not financially!) but in terms of giving families in the Church and connected with CE a really fun and lovely evening.  We had games, hot food and lots of stalls.  The Juniors were very much in charge of their stalls and had to plan everything themselves in the weeks leading up to it.  Adults were there in a supporting role but we all marvelled at how good our Juniors were at giving bargains and in looking after the younger visitors and giving everyone a fun and joyful time.  The games were imaginative and kept lots of children engaged while some Mums and Dads had a chance to sit and chat over a hot supper and cuppa.

In September, our Juniors will decide on how to spend the money raised and which charities will get what.  Giving is very much a part of the joy of serving in our Society.  Judy and I are very proud of the group of children we have had this year and look forward to a relaxing Summer and getting back in September.
